People bitch about the penalty kicks. If FIFA weren’t so uptight about a definite conclusion, we would have a real marathon. The golden goal-sudden death experiment was a failure. A practical proposal would result in: a) subsequent 30-minute silver-goal overtimes until someone outscored the other team and b) the number of substitutions being reset. The 30 minute OTs would be played without the teams changing sides until the next OT period. The substitutions would be three per three OT periods. After 180 minutes of play, the number of substitutions would reset and so on.
